Gail Swanlund

Gail Swanlund

Gail Swanlund is a graphic designer and educator. Her creative work has been exhibited at San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibition, the Biennial of Graphic Design in Brno, Czech Republic, and elsewhere. Her work has been acquired by public collections, including Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, SFMoMA and LACE. Swanlund wrote and designed for the experimental and influential typography journal Emigre, and designed for the vanguard artist magazines Artpaper and RealLife. She is a co-founder of the award-winning design studio, STRIPE, and currently, gailstudio. In addition to her graphic design, art making and writing practice, Swanlund collaborates on numerous art works and artist projects.

As CalArts faculty, she teaches graphic design and typography, and co-teaches courses and workshops with faculty from across the Institute.
